A Spanish publication believes that Tottenham Hotspur inadvertently sent a big hint regarding Cristian Romero’s future with an announcement that they made a few days ago.
Most Spurs fans are understandably already tired of the Romero transfer saga, which has been going on unabated for several months, but the speculation shows no signs of slowing down at the moment.
Atletico Madrid are seemingly trying everything they can to land the centre-back, with Diego Simeone publicly admitting that he wants to bring Romero to the Metropolitano Stadium.
According to reports over recent days, Tottenham will not be bullied into lowering their £60m asking price for Romero by Atletico’s underhanded tactics.
Have Tottenham just sent a hint that Cristian Romero is leaving?
A report in Mundo Deportivo has now pointed out that Tottenham Hotspur’s kit release videos over the last week had a big absentee.
It is pointed out that the series of videos that the North London side released featured most of their stars, but the absence of Romero was notable, given that he is their current vice-captain.
The outlet suggests that this may not be a coincidence and also points to reports of Spurs having major cash problems, amidst their mounting transfer debt, and suggests that this could potentially force them to cash in on the Argentine.
It remains to be seen whether this is wishful thinking on Mundo Deportivo’s part or whether they are actually onto something.
Atletico have one huge advantage in their Romero pursuit
After highlighting the above two factors, the report goes on to suggest that Atletico’s ‘greatest strength’ is that Romero wants to leave Spurs and is keen on moving to the Spanish capital, which the La Liga side hope to use to their advantage.
It is alleged that the 27-year-old remains one of the Colchoneros’ top targets, with Simeone continuing to push for the Tottenham man’s signing.
The publication adds that Atletico will turn their attention fully to the World Cup winner after closing other transfer dealings over the coming days and weeks.
