It was only just last year that Ross Scott, who runs the YouTube gaming channel Accursed Farms, spearheaded the Stop Killing Games initiative in response to… well, a pretty cynical game closure, specifically for The Crew. Scott initiated that effort to put social pressure on lawmakers to prevent unnecessary closures, which has included petitions like this one for EU citizens to sign and raise awareness. And with a goal of one million signatures and a deadline of July 31st, Scott has put out a new video reflecting on the past year of effort, which includes a reminder that said petition is currently around 400K signatures shy of its goal.
Scott’s video focuses on both misinformation about the movement and an acknowledgment that he does not believe he’s the right person for the job, for a variety of reasons. He’s also up-front about the fact that this may simply be a difficult lift to accomplish while he is very aware that this is not an unpopular movement, just one that hasn’t accomplished its goals at this time. Regardless, it’s an important look at a movement aimed at keeping games accessible for fans in perpetuity – and the ways in which that isn’t as easy a goal as it sounds like even when started with the best of intentions.
