Not every gamer wants to stay subscribed to PlayStation Plus forever, especially with changing libraries, shifting needs, or subscription fatigue. Whether you’re subscribed to Essential, Extra or Premium, Sony makes it relatively simple to cancel, though the process differs slightly depending on your device. Here’s a full guide to ensure your cancellation goes through smoothly, with no surprise charges.
On PS5 or PS4
- From the home screen, go to Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts, then scroll down to Payment and Subscriptions.
- Tap Subscriptions and choose PlayStation Plus.
- Select Cancel Subscription and confirm.
You’ll keep access to benefits (including online multiplayer and your monthly free games) until your current billing cycle ends.
On a web browser (desktop or mobile)
- Visit the PlayStation Account Management page and sign in.
- Click on the Subscription tab from the menu.
- Locate PlayStation Plus and click Cancel Subscription.
- Confirm your choice.
This method is especially helpful if you’re not near your console or want to use your phone or laptop.
After canceling, you’ll still get the most out of your current billing period, but:
- You’ll lose access to any monthly free games and downloadable content associated with PS Plus.
- Cloud saves are stored for six months post-expiry, so if you resubscribe later, you won’t lose your progress.
- If you cancel a 12-month plan early, Sony doesn’t offer partial refunds—you’ll continue to receive service until the plan ends.
If your cancellation is motivated by upcoming changes or price hikes, keep an eye on Sony’s announcements in case promotions reappear in the future.
