The new GIGABYTE utility adds additional profiles in the BIOS to increase the performance of Intel Core Ultra 200S processors installed on Z890 motherboards.
GIGABYTE Claims up to 35% Performance Uplifts in Gaming Via Ultra Turbo Mode, Released Exclusively on its Z890 Lineup
Intel’s Arrow Lake-S, aka Core Ultra Series 2 processors for the desktop, is getting a new optional enhancement utility on GIGABYTE motherboards, which the company claims to offer a significant boost in performance. GIGABYTE calls it “Ultra Turbo Mode”, which is a BIOS-specific feature released for the Intel Z890 platform that aims to tweak hardware parameters to increase the performance of Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors.
As per GIGABYTE, the new feature can add up to an additional 35% gains in gaming performance without requiring users to invest in the hardware. GIGABYTE has previously launched a similar mode for the AM5 platform as well, known as “X3D Turbo Mode,” that specifically works well for X3D CPUs but isn’t limited to these. It recently offered X3D Turbo Mode 2.0, which it unveiled at Computex, but for Intel’s Z890, this is the first BIOS-level tweak utility from the company.

GIGABYTE makes bold claims about performance uplifts through the Ultra Turbo Mode, like 68% better performance in AIDA64 memory benchmark and up to 35% higher frame rates in games like Hitman 3: Dartmoor. The company hasn’t shared any screenshots that back up the claim, and you should be skeptical about these results since a 35% performance gain can easily put the Core Ultra Series 2 ahead of Ryzen 9000X3D chips. This is certainly a cherry-picked instance, as usually even generational uplifts aren’t as good as these.

Nonetheless, GIGABYTE’s Ultra Turbo Mode should help in achieving better performance as it offers various memory and CPU optimizations that unlock the full performance of the hardware. The Ultra Turbo Mode adds three different profiles in the BIOS, namely: LV2 Turbo Intel 200S Boost, LV2 Turbo Mode, and LV3 Extreme Mode. The LV1 Turbo is based on Intel’s 200S Boost, which was launched a few months ago and optimizes Fabric, Die-to-Die, and DDR5 memory clocks. The LV2 Turbo Mode further enhances the CPU/DRAM parameters, and the LV3 Extreme Mode supposedly unlocks the “maximum performance potential”.
While GIGABYTE didn’t share much about the third one, it’s likely that this mode also unlocks additional tweaks like power management and user workload monitoring to ensure that the primary workload gets the majority of the resources. The Ultra Turbo Mode will be available on all GIGABYTE Z890 motherboards via the latest BIOS soon.
